Instructor Certificates

Take your teaching to the next level!

The Centre for Teaching and Learning is pleased to announce two new credentialed programs created in partnership with the School of Education:

These programs support faculty, graduate students, K-12 teachers, and workplace learning providers, in developing their teaching skills for today’s learners and teaching contexts.

Each program consists of 8 courses (27 Credits) and can be completed in 12 months. These two programs share three foundational courses: INTR 400: Research and Reflective Practice; INTR 401: Quality Course Design; and INTR 402: Assessment and Evaluation, as indicated by the graphic below:

eLearning Instructor Post-Diploma Certificate (ELRN)

The eLearning Instructor Post-Diploma Certificate (starting May 2019) is designed to prepare educators for teaching in an online environment. Intended for those teaching in their work environment, preparing to enter the field of post-secondary education as a professional or graduate student, or are looking to develop their online teaching skills, this fully online program prepares graduates for success in online teaching. For more information and courses, please see the School of Education [1].

Adult and Higher Education Instructor Post-Diploma Certificate (ADHE)

The Adult and Higher Education Instructor Post-Diploma Certificate (starting May 2019) is designed to prepare individuals for success as an instructor in an adult or post-secondary learning environment. Intended for those entering into or wishing to expand their abilities in the fields of higher education and adult education, this fully online program prepares graduates for success in a variety of teaching and learning settings. For more information, please see the RDC Program Page [4].

Prior Learning Recognition and ETaL

With the exception of the 6 credit Research Integration Capstone courses, all courses in both programs are eligible for Prior Learning Recognition.

For RDC Faculty who have completed the 3-year internal Excellence in Teaching and Learning program offered by the Centre for Teaching and Learning (credentialed as a Career Development Certificate through the School of Continuing Education), Prior Learning Recognition will be granted for 9 credits towards INTR 400 (Research and Reflective Practice), INTR 401 (Quality Course Design), and INTR 402 (Assessment and Evaluation). These form the common core courses for both programs. There is no transfer of individual modules of ETaL into either Instructor Graduate Post-Diploma Certificate due to the threading of core concepts throughout the program. Upon application, in order to receive prior learning recognition, completion of ETaL is required.

FARDC Collective Agreement Salary Increment

Pursuant to Article 10.3 and Appendix E of the current FARDC Collective Agreement [7], RDC Faculty who wish to take the eLearning Instructor Post-Diploma Certificate or the Adult and Higher Education Instructor Post-Diploma Certificate may be eligible for the 4.5% salary increment following the steps for pre-approval laid out in the FARDC Collective Agreement.
